This New Year's we packed up the family and headed up to Yosemite to....freeze our butts off in the 15 degree temperatures! :)
Heading into the valley, we stopped to admire the view of Half Dome.
We got to our campground, Upper Pines. We set up our tent amongst the RV's with their heaters running. One guy, who I WISH I would have snapped a pic of, literally set up a hammock and slept in a caccoon of sleeping bag. Much respect.
The first night, we were literally in schock at how cold it was, I sat the kids in the car with the heater a couple of times, myself included. We brought a Honey Baked ham and had a great dinner.
Day number two, in the morning we went up to the visitor center and had breakfast and coffee at the cafe which had a nice view of Yosemite Falls. It got up into the lower 40s during the day, a welcome warmth compared to the 15 degrees overnight.
After our meal, we grabbed a map and headed past our campground to take a hike up John Muir trail to Vernal Falls. The Mist trail to Nevada Falls is closed during winter, so we went as far up as we could.
Of course, the trail is gorgeous, and easy enough for a 3 1/2 year old to accomplish without being aided in any way. We did about 3.5 miles round trip.
Although, there wasn't any snow when we went, it definitely was cold enough for plenty of ice and frozen areas.
People along the trail were stopping for fear of heights with the incline, but not our kids.
This is my favorite family picture to date:
Vernal Fall was falling from a frozen lake.
The only snow we saw this trip was on the lake at the top.
After some enjoyment of the frozen trail, we headed back down to our campsite.
Look at the teeny, tiny people on the trail.
The second night did not seem as cold. We headed out the next morning.
Until next time, Yosemite!
